At first glance, Ashley Hernandez, a netizen would seem to be condoning wrongdoing by asking that you mind your business when you see others shoplifting food, but put a little thought into it and she hits a nail that goes right home to a very basic human need.
@Aleyvette in a tweet she appealed that people seen coveting food at the supermarket or mall should not be reported to the security or staff even thought their act is technically a crime.
Rationalizing her point, she said people should be allowed to get their food, which of course is a basic human need and they’re obviously stealing because they don’t have the funds to purchase like everyone else is supposed to.
She also added that if you have the means to pay, offer to pay for their food, but definitely leave out reporting them to staff or security.
“If you notice someone shoplifting food mind your own business or offer to pay. Don’t tell or staff just let people get their food.” she wrote.
While she makes a compelling argument, stealing is a crime and shouldn’t be encouraged. Let’s rather be there for each other as this year has been a tough one for everyone.
